Licenses for undocumented immigrants
In June 2019, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the Green Light Law, permitting undocumented immigrants to acquire driver's licenses. The bill was earlier approved by the New York State Legislature.

Get a Learner Permit
Apply at a DMV office and pass the written test. Prepare with our online permit prep course, in English and Spanish.
Practice & Pre-Licensing
Log supervised driving hours, then complete our 5-hour DMV-approved pre-licensing course to earn your MV-278 certificate.
Pass the Road Test
Pass your road test and receive an interim license. Your full license arrives in the mail within about two weeks.
